Shannon’s mission lives at the intersection of academic research and everyday faith formation. Her website needed to represent both elements, displaying rigorous scholarship without losing the approachability that makes her work matter to real families. From the start, our goal was to create a site that felt like Shannon herself: thoughtful, warm, and wise.
Before making a single design decision, our team spent time getting to know Shannon and learning about her aesthetic sensibilities, her audience, and her post-doctoral goals. She shared her fondness for impressionist artwork, her convictions about motherhood and nurturing, and her desire to bridge the gap between lofty academia and the messy realities of raising children who love Jesus. These ideas became the foundation for everything that followed.
We translated that inspiration into a rich visual language across the site. Stipple artwork, layered patterns, textured elements, and authentic photography work together to create a site that feels like stepping into an art gallery. We also introduced a touch of playful animation to her brand mark, representing the small parts that come together to form a whole person. The visual design of the site subtly reinforces the same message of Shannon’s research: Christian formation is beautiful, gradual, and thoroughly human from beginning to end.

“I felt heard and understood. The care I received from the entire team demonstrated they wanted to know me so they could build a website that reflected my character and my goals. The website the Amenable team built for me is beautiful, aesthetically soothing, and has increased my confidence in my ability to sell my services.”
- Dr. Shannon O’Hearn Downing, Christian Formation Research & Consulting

Shannon’s work serves a wide range of people: scholars seeking rigorous research, educators and church leaders looking for practical tools, and parents navigating the daily work of raising children in faith. Good educational website design removes friction and builds trust, and we accomplished this by building clear audience pathways directly into the site’s architecture. A dedicated section serves scholars focused on academic research, while a separate, more practically-oriented space supports parents, pastors, and educators. This site structure allows each visitor to quickly find the work Shannon created specifically for them.
Shannon came to us with a wealth of knowledge and a vision she hadn’t yet fully articulated. This educational website design project helped give that vision shape, creating a home for her life’s work that reflects both her scholarship and her heart for Christian formation
