In certain senses, our understanding of Advent language has shifted over time. In other ways, we have become desensitized by being so acquainted with its traditional phrases and themes.
This Advent, we may find it helpful to rethink our language to discover anew the biblical meaning of the words we frequently use. To beat the slump of complacency and experience Advent on a deeper level, we should begin to ask ourselves, “Why is Advent important? What is this all about, and why do we observe it in these specific ways?”
